Pha Tad Ke Permaculture Garden

Permaculture is a creative design process on whole-systems thinking, using  a set of ethics and principles. The ethics and principles assembling conceptual, material, and strategic components in a pattern which functions to benefit life in all its forms. The philosophy behind permaculture is one of working with, rather than against, nature. Using thoughtful observations rather than thoughtless action; to achieve a sustainable system by looking at all their functions, rather than asking only one yield of them; and allowing systems to demonstrate their own evolutions.

This approach guides us to mimic the patterns and relationships we can find in nature and can be applied to all aspects of human habitation, from agriculture to ecological building, from appropriate technology to education and even economics. By adopting the ethics and applying these principles in our daily life we can make the transition from being dependent consumers to becoming responsible producers and become more resilient in an era of change.

At Pha Tad Ke, a permaculture demonstration & research farm was developed in 2018, and is designed around low, mid, and high mountain land. The PTK Permaculture Garden reflects the various ethnic groups that inhabit these regions. Through a well-designed training program and our two permaculture manuals in Lao language, we share our knowledge of organic gardening with Lao farmers, students, teachers, and government staff with the aim to mitigate unsustainable agriculture techniques as, tilling of soil, slash and burn, chemical use, mono-cultural production etc.
